WIND-STR-002 : Estimation of wind force for TALL structures

Wind forces & pressures are important in the design of structures being frequently occurring phenomenon. The fundamental IS code related to wind forces (IS 875- Pt. 3) was revised in 2015 and two amendments have been so far issued. It generated few practical difficulties and there are few clauses of the code on which discussion is required. We launched an online course WIND-STR-001 focusing on the estimation of wind force for low rise structures. After successful completion of the course for estimation of wind force for low rise structures (WIND-STR-001), an online course is launched for tall structures : WIND-STR-002. Wind forces & associated response of Tall buildings is much important not only for design of building but also from the point of view of acceleration & human comfort, surrounding wind flow pattern changes, glazings & facade design, pedestrian level comfort etc. Dynamic response evaluation is critical & particularly across wind response for tall slender buildings. Interference among buildings when they exist in a cluster are still not fully well understood and documented. The course will focus on wind force estimation for tall structures as per IS 875 (Part 3):2015.  The course will cover important aspects like wind characteristics, dynamic effects, dynamic response of structures, galloping, flutter, vortex shedding, gust factor calculations etc. along with few worked out examples.  The course will also cover wind tunnel testing requirements, interpretation of results and interference effects for tall structures. By purchasing the course, you will get access to recording of previous online course WIND-STR-001. There are total 9 recorded sessions (each session~1hr+ duration). Access of the videos will be available for 90 days from the enrollment.

STEEL-STR-001 : Decode IS 800:2007 along with Software

For design of steel structures, IS 800:2007 was published before ~13 years but still there are many practical difficulties related to implementation of the IS code. It is not a conventional revision of the code as there is complete change in design philosophy from working stress design method to limit state design method. There are practical difficulties since commentary on the code along with practical examples are not available. Also, there are certain gaps between the latest IS code and the current popular software. It is heard from few engineers that the tonnage we get from the design using IS 800:2007 is higher than the earlier code. Also, there is no confidence in the group of engineers while designing the structure using limit state design method. Hence, they are cross checking results with the working stress method since the software is having both the options. These kinds of scenarios have prompted us to launch a unique course: STEEL-STR-001 ( Decode IS 800:2007 along with the software). After successful completion of the two batches of the course, we have received many requests for relaunching the course. Accordingly, 3rd batch of the course will commence from 26-MAY-22. The course will cover discussion on important clauses of the code as well as application of same in the software, ETABS & STAAD.Pro. The course will cover the important areas such as second order elastic analysis, plastic analysis, elastic buckling load factor, moment amplification factors, effective length calculations, different limit states, block shear, lateral torsional buckling, connection design, earthquake resistant design, fire resistant design, durability, etc.
