REC-STR-013: Design of steel structures | IS 800:2007 | AISC 360-22 | PEB structure | Software
The course covers detailed discussion on important clauses of IS 800:2007 & AISC 360-22 as well as application of same in the software, STAAD Pro, RAM connections & ETABS. The course will cover the important areas such as possibilities of cost optimisation, second order elastic analysis, plastic analysis, elastic buckling load factor, moment amplification factors, effective length calculations, different limit states, block shear, lateral torsional buckling, connection design, earthquake resistant design, etc.
We will discuss design of different types of bolted connections, welded connections, connections for tubular sections, etc. The important limit states for connection design will be covered such as flange bending, block shear, bearing failure, shear failure, web yielding, web crippling, web panel zone shear, web compression buckling, requirements for seismic design, etc. along with the diagrams and worked out examples.
It includes case study of two warehouse structures (with and without central column), covering the following steps:
Preparing structural system, geometry generation, wind and seismic load calculations, load applications in the software, load combinations, performing analysis of structure, defining design parameters for different structural elements, design of typical members, connection design of the structure using RAM connection software, foundation design using RCDC software, etc.
Design of the structures will be performed using IS 800 : 2007. Wind load calculations as per IS 875 (Part 3) : 2015 and seismic load calculations as per IS 1893 (Part 1):2016 & NBC 2016
Analysis and design will be performed using software STAAD Pro, RAM connection and RCDC.
Manual calculations will be performed for checking the different capacity calculations for taper member with slender web, etc.
There are total 72 recorded sessions.
